About Inger
Dr Inger Olesen is an experienced Medical Oncologist with almost two decades of specialist practice across Australia and extensive expertise in cancer care, clinical research, medical education, and precision medicine. She joins Rosalind Genetics as a Cancer Physician, bringing a patient-centred approach and deep experience supporting individuals and families navigating complex cancer diagnoses.
Dr Olesen completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Tasmania before obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Honours) from the University of Sydney. She subsequently completed specialist training in Medical Oncology and has held senior specialist appointments across leading Australian hospitals including the Andrew Love Cancer Centre at University Hospital Geelong, Royal Hobart Hospital, and Mackay Base Hospital.
Throughout her career, Dr Olesen has developed broad expertise across multiple tumour streams including breast, lung, gynaecological, gastrointestinal, and skin cancers. Her particular interests include rare tumours and rare gynaecological cancers, with additional research experience through a sabbatical at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI) under the mentorship of Professor Clare Scott.
Dr Olesen has extensive experience in clinical trials, serving as both Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator across a diverse range of oncology studies. Her longstanding involvement in research reflects her commitment to advancing cancer care and ensuring patients have access to emerging therapies and evidence-based treatment approaches.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Olesen has a strong passion for education and mentorship. She has held teaching and academic appointments with Deakin University and the University of Tasmania and has contributed to training the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Dr Olesen has also recently undertaken additional training in Obstetric Medicine, reflecting her broad clinical interests and commitment to caring for patients across important life stages and complex medical settings. Her interest in hereditary cancer, cancer risk assessment, and personalised medicine aligns closely with the vision of Rosalind Genetics and makes her a valuable addition to the multidisciplinary team.
