About Sondhya
Dr Sondhya (Sondy) Ghedia is a highly respected clinical geneticist with over a decade of experience supporting patients across both the public and private healthcare systems.
Raised in regional New South Wales, Sondy began her career in pharmacy before completing her medical degree at the University of Sydney. She went on to train in paediatrics at Sydney Children’s Hospital, followed by advanced training in clinical genetics at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Since 2010, Sondy has provided expert care to both adult and paediatric patients. She is the Clinical Lead of the Department of Clinical Genetics at Royal North Shore Hospital; one of the few centres in Australia offering dedicated care for adults with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), an area in which she has extensive expertise.
Her broader interests include general genetics, preconception carrier screening, and the coordination and interpretation of complex genetic testing. She is known for her thorough, patient-centred approach and her ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable guidance.
Beyond clinical care, Sondy is passionate about shaping the future of genetic medicine. She has served on the Board of Certification for Genetic Counsellors, regularly supervises junior clinical geneticists in training, and co-coordinates the postgraduate genomics course (GENMED5001) at the University of Sydney, where she helps upskill healthcare professionals in this rapidly evolving field.
